Packing eggs and generating electricity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the packing facility in Link\u00f6ping – one of several such facilities across Sweden – 8.5 million eggs are packed each week and then distributed and sold under the Stj\u00e4rn\u00e4gg AB brand to grocery stores, restaurants, and institutional kitchens. A solar power system was recently installed on the roof here, which is expected to generate nearly 450,000 kWh per year. This means the company will generate a large amount of electricity itself at a fixed low price of 35 \u00f6re per kWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erik Pettersson is CEO and co-owner of KG\u2019s \u00c4gg AB and is pleased with the installation.
– \u201cThe installation process went very smoothly, and we\u2019re really looking forward to our first season with our own solar power. The system will produce about one-third of our needs and aligns with our sustainability strategy; we\u2019ll purchase the remaining energy as either green electricity or district heating.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spreading the risks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Investing in solar energy is part of a long-term strategy and sustainability efforts. But it is also a way to spread the risk.
– \u201cThe solar power plant not only reduces our environmental impact; it is also a way to manage risk by securing our own electricity production as the market has proven increasingly economically volatile,\u201d <\/em>says Erik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
